So as the new year came around, I want to list up some things/events that happened in 2022. I truly think that the past year was quite interesting and eventful. The first thing that I found amazing was the James Webb Telescope photos. This telescope is the largest telescope that has ever been launched into space. The first ever picture we received was on July 11th 2022, and it showed a deep field image of the galaxy cluster. There are also more pictures that were taken with the telescope, e.g a pair of galaxies “VV191” and so on. It is hard to believe that these pictures are real, because we only see such images in movies or on photoshop, I was indeed mind blown. The next thing that I thought was funny, was the “Minions Rise of Gru” hype. So one day, everyone who wanted to watch this exact film just decided to dress up, and by that I mean to put on your best suit/dress and go watch a children’s film. This was a popular social media trend where almost everyone followed along. In some places it really escalated, because teenagers started throwing popcorn around and screaming during the film, which was not pleasant for families that actually wanted to watch the film. Some cinemas even threw teenagers out who came to watch the Minion film dressed up. I think it was funny to some extent, but when people started trashing the cinemas it just became rude and childish. Another thing that was surprising and sad, was the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II. She was UK’s longest monarch, that reigned for 70 years. During Her Majesty’s reign, the Queen witnessed enormous social change and many wars, including the Cold War. The Queen was an important figurehead for the UK and of course for other people around the world. I think we will never stop honouring Her Majesty in our hearts. In 2022, we became acquainted with a new public figure called Andrew Tate. He is a businessman, a former professional kick boxer and influencer. He is offering paid courses on his website which grew in popularity, that is why he became Internet famous. Andrew Tate was banned from several social media platforms, due to his misogynistic comments. But this just showed that there is no actual freedom of speech. He explained that these comments should not be taken seriously and that he is joking most of the time. Tate is trying to teach the male audience how to be a “real man” and how to provide for your woman, but most of the people do not like this at all. Right now, Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate are involved in a human trafficking investigation and detainment. There was this intriguing Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial. The couple split in 2016, decades ago. The battle started when Amber Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post, where she told what it is like surviving domestic violence, but without actually mentioning her ex-husband’s name. So Depp sued Heard for 50 million in damages. The jury found out that Heard could not prove her allegations against Johnny Depp and that she wrote that essay filled with lies. Depp was awarded by the jury in his defamation suit with10 million in compensatory damages and 5 million in punitive damages. Besides that, Amber Heard became internet famous and everyone made Memes out of her. Wheels vs. Door debate. I bet you forgot about this one. There was a debate on the internet whether there are more wheels or more doors on earth. I do not know who came up with this, but who cares? It was interesting to think about. So what do you think, are there more wheels or doors on earth? Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards across the face. Now, I did not expect anything like this, but this happened. Smith smacked Rock in the face because, he made a joke about Smith’s wife and her shaved head due to alopecia areata. This is a condition where you loose hair on certain spots of your body or even on all areas of the body. So after the slap, Smith casually returned to his seat and the show went on. Later, he received the “Best Actor” award and apologized to everyone. As a result, he was banned from attending Academy events for 10 years. Well, these were some of the events we lived through. I am very excited what 2023 has to bring. I wish you all a great start in to the new year, and I hope everyone is going to achieve their goals that they have set for themselves.
